Central Asian Countries and Azerbaijan Meet to Discuss Economic Cooperation
Multilateral consultations and bilateral meetings on regional cooperation were organized in Geneva, Switzerland, within the dialogue of the ministers of the UN Special Program for the Economies of Central Asian Countries (SPECA) with the heads of UN specialized agencies and representatives of non-governmental organizations, the Press Office of the Ministry of Economy of Azerbaijan reported.
The information said that Economy Minister Mikayil Jabbarov emphasized the long-term cooperative relations between SPECA and Azerbaijan, extensive cooperation with member states in many areas of the economy both at the intergovernmental level and within the framework of the program. Emphasizing the importance of using the potential of regional transport-transit routes, the minister said: "Because most of the SPECA member countries do not have access to the open sea, it is important to be involved in international and regional transport corridors to increase the efficiency of our economies. It was pointed out that in recent years, Azerbaijan has made large-scale investments in road and transport infrastructure development, including constructing a modern railway network, seaports, and a vast network of highways. At the meetings, consultations were held regarding the possibilities of multilateral cooperation within the framework of SPECA, the development of partnerships between countries, and the facilitation of the process of joining the world economy.
In addition, the parties discussed diversification of transit routes in the SPECA region, facilitation of trade and transport, digitalization and green transformation, the creation of the SPECA Trust Fund, the holding of the Summit of member states of the organization in Baku this year, and the 25th anniversary of the "UN Special Program for the Central Asian Economies."
