Chikovani Takes Helm of Georgian Defense Ministry, Promises to Uphold National Security
On February 9, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze officially introduced Irakli Chikovani as the new Defense Minister to the Ministry's staff.
Prime Minister Kobakhidze expressed gratitude to the Defense Forces for their dedication and service to the nation, reaffirming the government's commitment to supporting every soldier. He highlighted Chikovani's extensive political and professional background, expressing confidence in his ability to lead the ministry effectively and continue the ongoing plans and reforms.
Kobakhidze also took the opportunity to thank outgoing Defense Minister Burchuladze for his service and wished him success in his future endeavors.
Irakli Chikovani's appointment as Defense Minister follows a vote of confidence by the Parliament of Georgia. His political journey includes serving as a Member of Parliament for the 10th Convocation, representing the Majoritarian Electoral District of Zugdidi. He also held the position of Deputy Parliament Speaker during this tenure. Previously, Chikovani served as a Member of Parliament for the 8th Convocation from the party list of the Bidzina Ivanishvili-Georgian Dream electoral bloc. Chikovani brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having graduated from Tbilisi Ivane Javakhishvili State University with a degree in law and completing his education at the NATO Defense College. He has also accumulated years of experience working within the Defense Ministry, positioning him well to lead the ministry in its mission to ensure the security and defense of Georgia.
