Controversy Between Georgian Dream and Czech Ambassador to Tbilisi

| News, Politics, Georgia

On December 1, in response to the Czech Ambassador's remarks stating that in 2022, the export of Czech goods to Georgia almost doubled, and he is confident that at least part of it goes to the Russian Federation, Irakli Kobakhidze, the chairman of the Georgian Dream party, stated, "If the Czech Ambassador says something like that, we will respond diplomatically."

Kobakhidze stated, "Similar statements had been made by high-ranking officials of the Ukrainian Government, which they responded to and will do so in this case as well."

"I do not know, I hear this statement for the first time, but if this statement was made, it's incredible. We have heard such statements from the Ukrainian authorities in the past, and then they had to deny them, and everyone denied such a thing. If such a statement was made, it needs a response, because just as we have reacted to the statements of high-ranking officials of Ukraine, and they had to take it back, we will have the same reaction in this case too," Kobakhidze added. When asked what their reaction would be, Kobakhidze said it would be diplomatic.

On December 2, Petr Mikyska, the Czech Ambassador to Georgia, was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for explanations.  "The Czech Ambassador expressed regret that his words had been misinterpreted and spread out of context," the information stated. "During the meeting with the Deputy Minister, the Ambassador also confirmed that there are no questions regarding Georgia acting against the sanctions," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
