Corona crisis: Azerbaijan undertakes further economic measures
On 25 March, Azerbaijani Economy Minister Mikayil Jabbarov spoke further on the economic measures to be undertaken in the country. He specifically spoke about what sort of entities would receive the government's financial aid in order to overcome the global economic crisis which was caused by the coronavirus pandemic, reported APA.
He said that the government would prefer legal entities and entrepreneurs, who adequately respond to state's appeals during determination of support measures, as well as in the current situation, do not allow a decrease of employement spots and salary fund, organize their activity transparently, and demonstrate social responsibility
It was noted that the provision of support for the continuation of economic growth in the country will be covered by the system of complex measures. This system will cover such areas as ensuring liquidity in the economy, granting of tax discounts and vacations to entrepreneurs, easement of availability of public crediting resources, protecting the stability of financial markets, introduction of the targeted state orders’ system and more.
It was also noted that the government would settle for taking such forced measures as reduction of economic activities which could cause a shrinkage of the economy in a short time in order to protect the health of the country’s citizens and ensure security of the population. The government declared its readiness to pay the costs of these measures and sees them as a new development path for the economy after preventing the growth of the existing situation and spread of the pandemic. The establishment of production and processing sectors satisfying the domestic demand and replacing the import of foreign products and the incorporation of the new production enterprises in these areas will be promoted.
A day earlier, Jabbarov spoke on the major economic areas which need to be sustained during the crisis (Caucasus Watch reported).
The government also declared that next week will be a non-working week for the country. The special quarantine regime in the country was introduced yesterday (Caucasus Watch reported).
The current tally of infected persons in the country is 81.
