De-facto Minister of Internal Affairs of Abkhazia was removed from office
De-facto President of separatist Abkhazia Aslan Bzhania dismissed Dmitry Dbar from the position of head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs while investigating two shooting incidents, in which parliament members are suspected, and ordered the strengthening of security at government buildings.
On October 1, the parliament of Abkhazia held an emergency meeting in connection with the shooting in Sukhumi. The deputies discussed the draft resolution on the removal of Dmitry Dbar from the post of the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, but he did not get the required number of votes.
On the evening of September 30, MP Garry Kokaya at the Rina restaurant on the Makhadzhirov embankment in Sukhumi fired a Glock pistol five times in the air, refused to hand over the weapons to the police and fled, the Interior Ministry reported on October 1.
At the same meeting, the Prosecutor General of Abkhazia Damir Kvitsinia supported Dmitry Dbar’s initiative and reported on the check carried out by the Prosecutor General's Office.
According to the Interior Ministry, Almaskhan Ardzinba fired into the air with a Kalashnikov assault rifle. "Having a criminal intent aimed at a gross violation of public order, and expressing a clear disrespect for society, realising that this area is a public place, from an illegally stored firearm - a Kalashnikov machine gun of alleged 5.45 mm calibre, shouting out containing Ardzinba AZ fired 20 shots into the air with profanity towards the building of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia, after which he fled from the scene in an unknown direction” said in a message posted on October 1 on the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Abkhazia’s website.
