Deputy Speaker of Polish Parliament: "They Threaten Me If I Continue to Speak Loudly About Saakashvili's Life"

| News, Politics, Georgia

On January 17, Małgorzata Gosiewska, the Deputy Speaker of the Polish Sejm (Parliament), said, "They threaten me that if I continue to speak loudly about Saakashvili's life and the situation in Georgia, I will no longer have the opportunity to enter Georgia."

According to her, the threat was overheard during an official conversation. "Such a threat was heard by our Ambassador, who was told directly about it. Due to my work, I do not have the opportunity to enter Russia and Belarus, and if Georgia is added to these countries, everything will be clear. Such a threat was made in a formal conversation held with the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland," she added.

"This threat was heard in the official conversation. I hope it will not be implemented. I want Georgia to return to the normal circle. I want to have the opportunity to visit political prisoners. I had been visiting the former Prime Minister, Mr. Vano Merabishvili, in prison for years. I had the opportunity then; now, I do not have such an opportunity. I have been refused permission to visit Saakashvili several times. They refused me; they also refused me to visit Gvaramia," Gosiewska stated.

On the same day, Gia Volski, the First Vice-speaker of the Georgian Parliament, stated, "I do not know what was said to the Polish ambassador at the reception, but an official diplomatic demarche may apply to a person who openly confronts and opposes the state not only based on political sympathy but also implements a specific plan that is part of the [United] National Movement plan."

"I do not know what was said to Ms. Małgorzata Gosiewska, but the fact is that she has been standing on a certain political platform for years. Despite the fact that she is the co-chairperson of the group of friends, she does not hide her sympathy for Saakashvili's team. In addition to expressing sympathy, she expresses an extraordinary political position, which fundamentally opposes the state of Georgia and actually violates the standard of political and diplomatic prudence that a particular high-ranking official should show," Volski said.
