Economy of Georgia Grows by 10% in 2022
On January 9, Lasha Khutsishvili, the Georgian Minister of Finance, stated that according to statistics from the previous 11 months, the Georgian economy has expanded by 10%. It is anticipated that this pace of development will continue in 2023.
Moreover, Lasha Khutsishvili said that the country's inflation has begun to decline. He claimed that in December, the inflation rate was 9.8%. "A number of modifications will take effect starting in 2023. In the public sector, salaries have already climbed by 10%. The army, police, and security services are the exception, where pay has climbed by 20%," he added.
"I would like to summarize the last year in economic terms. According to the data from the last 11 months, the economy of Georgia has grown by 10% on average. It is expected that economic growth will remain at this level in 2023. I would like to focus on some macroeconomic parameters. One of the government's main priorities was to reduce the budget deficit. At the beginning of the year, the actual rate of the budget deficit was 4.4; at the end of the year, it decreased to 3.1, which is a significant success for the country," Khutsishvili emphasized.
"The rate of inflation also started to decrease. A 9.8% inflation rate was recorded in December. In the coming months, I think the reduction of inflation will accelerate even more," the Georgian Minister of Finance concluded.
