EU Strengthens Support for Armenia Ahead of Key Elections
The European Union will provide Armenia with €15 million aimed at strengthening peace and enhancing the country’s overall resilience, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas announced following the 6th meeting of the EU-Armenia Partnership Council in Brussels. The funding will support several initiatives, including demining training and specialized equipment, contributing to Armenia’s broader security and stabilization efforts.
Kallas said Armenia is also facing major challenges related to foreign information interference. She stated that Russia and affiliated networks are conducting information campaigns in Armenia ahead of the upcoming parliamentary elections, using methods similar to those observed earlier in Moldova. According to the High Representative, part of the new EU assistance package will help Armenia build capacity to counter external influence operations.
She stressed that resilience requires the involvement of society as a whole, highlighting the essential role of active civil society groups and independent media. Kallas reaffirmed that Armenia is not facing these challenges alone and that the EU stands ready to provide sustained practical support.
