Ex-Defense Minister of Armenia Debunks Government's Allegations on Russian Arms Deal
On December 23, Major General Arshak Karapetyan, the former Armenian Defense Minister and leader of the All-Armenian Front movement, stated that the Armenian authorities' claims that Yerevan did not receive arms after paying Russia for them were not true.
"What do you explain Nikol Pashinyan's repeated statements that we paid money for Russia's weapons and did not receive them?" the question was asked. In response, the general said that the weapons that were purchased from Russia were to be exported by the Armenian side on its own. "The order was fulfilled in time and remained in the manufacturer's warehouses for 2-3 years. At the same time, the Russian side kept and maintained it," he added.
"We did not export it during these 2-3 years. The US imposed sanctions on this manufacturer, the Americans warned Georgia about it and banned the transportation of these weapons through the territory of Georgia to Armenia," Karapetyan explained.
"The manufacturer fulfilled the order and said - everything is ready, take it away. If we can't take it ourselves, why blame the Russians? Maybe I don't know everything, but they say they used some of these weapons. It was dangerous to leave it in the manufacturer's warehouses, and it was necessary to move it either to military warehouses or use it in the end," Karapetyan concluded.
