On January 24, as part of Georgian Minister of Foreign Affairs Ilia Darchiashvili's visit to Saudi Arabia, an agreement was signed between Georgia and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to establish an intergovernmental coordination council, the Press Office of the Georgian government reported. The signing ceremony involved Minister Darchiashvili, representing Georgia, and Prince Faisal bin Farhan, the head of the Saudi Arabian Foreign Ministry.

The agreement outlines establishing regular meetings for the intergovernmental commission and creating working groups to address common interests through periodic meetings and consultations. This agreement signifies a significant step toward enhancing political and economic cooperation between the two countries, elevating their existing relations to a new level. The decision to form a joint intergovernmental commission was initially made in 2022 during the visit of Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili to Saudi Arabia. The decision was made during a meeting between Gharibashvili and the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud. The signing of this agreement is expected to bolster collaboration in various sectors, contributing to deeper political and economic ties between Georgia and Saudi Arabia.

Both sides emphasized the close partnership and friendship between the two nations during the ministerial meeting. The discussions focused on strengthening relations in trade and economy, tourism, people-to-people contacts, and culture. Minister Darchiashvili took the opportunity to brief his Saudi counterpart on Georgia's economic potential and business opportunities.

The ministers also reflected on the successful visit of the Georgian Prime Minister to Saudi Arabia, underlining the importance of the timely and effective implementation of the agreements reached during that visit. Additionally, the foreign ministers addressed the region's current situation and challenges.
