Georgia Has a New Ambassador to the United States

Tamar Taliashvili will be appointed as Georgia’s ambassador to the United States starting July 10. For her to assume this position, Mikheil Kavelashvili, elected as the sixth president by the same party, must approve the nomination proposed by the Georgian Dream government.
Taliashvili was selected as ambassador by the Georgian government. The relevant decree was issued by Georgian Dream Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on behalf of the government on June 9.
Tamar Taliashvili served as Georgia’s permanent representative to the Council of Europe from October 2022 until June 9, 2025. She will be replaced in that role by former Georgian Dream MP Khatia Tsilosani.
Commenting on the current state of relations between Georgia and the United States on June 10, the Georgian Prime Minister stated: “There has been speculation regarding Georgian-American relations. In this context, it is significant that Georgia received the so-called Agrément for the ambassador’s appointment, and Georgia will soon have an officially appointed ambassador. The nomination has already been sent to the President, and Tamar Taliashvili, an exceptionally qualified candidate, will be appointed to the position. Her task is absolutely clear—we have discussed how the development of Georgian-American relations impacts us. Primarily, we aim to renew the strategic partnership. We openly state that it is crucial for us to restore this partnership from a clean slate, with specific guidelines and objectives. The ambassador’s role is to convince the new U.S. administration of this vision. We strongly hope that, under favorable conditions, these relations will be reset, and the strategic partnership will be restored. We must emphasize again that the struggle continues between the new administration and the ‘Deep State,’ and we are optimistic that the new administration will succeed in this effort,” Irakli Kobakhidze said.
