Georgia Increases 2024 Economic Growth Forecast to 9%
On November 27, the Georgian government revised its 2024 economic growth forecast, raising it from 8.2% to 9%. The government submitted corresponding budget amendments to Parliament for review by specialized committees, according to reports from business media.
Under the revised budget, total state allocations will amount to 25,930.4 million GEL (€8.97 billion), an increase of 900.0 million GEL (€311.42 million) compared to the previously approved plan. The Ministry of Health and Social Protection will receive an additional 240.0 million GEL (€83.01 million), raising its total funding to 8,069.2 million GEL (€2.79 billion). The Ministry of Education, Science, and Youth will see its budget increase by 37.0 million GEL (€12.80 million) to 2,545.0 million GEL (€880.28 million), with public school funding rising by 65.0 million GEL (€22.49 million). However, loans from international financial institutions for education projects will be reduced by 28.0 million GEL (€9.69 million).
The Ministry of Culture and Sports will see its budget grow by 34.5 million GEL (€11.94 million) to 506.5 million GEL (€175.27 million). The additional funds will cover bonuses for athletes achieving international success and support national teams’ participation in tournaments. Conversely, the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development’s funding will decrease by 18.7 million GEL (€6.47 million) to 782.3 million GEL (€270.74 million). Although its budgetary allocations will increase by 10.8 million GEL (€3.74 million), loans from international financial institutions will be reduced by 29.5 million GEL (€10.21 million).
The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture will receive an additional 50.0 million GEL (€17.30 million), bringing its total funding to 738.0 million GEL (€255.71 million). These funds will be used to subsidize increased costs during the harvest period and cover interest expenses under the preferential agro-credit program. The Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure’s budget will grow by 347.0 million GEL (€120.07 million) to 3,747.7 million GEL (€1.30 billion). Meanwhile, the Ministry of Internal Affairs will receive a 20.0 million GEL (€6.92 million) increase, raising its total to 1,280.0 million GEL (€442.91 million).
The Ministry of Defense’s funding will rise by 210.0 million GEL (€72.66 million), reaching 1,590.0 million GEL (€550.17 million). The State Security Service’s budget will increase by 5.0 million GEL (€1.73 million) to 215.0 million GEL (€74.39 million), while the Ministry of Justice will gain an additional 9.0 million GEL (€3.11 million), bringing its total to 423.7 million GEL (€146.59 million). Finally, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will receive a 2.2 million GEL (€0.76 million) increase, setting its budget at 189.7 million GEL (€65.64 million).
