| News, Politics, Georgia

On Monday, a delegation of the ruling Georgian Dream party led by its Chair, Irakli Kobakhidze, visited China. Cooperation with China holds significant importance from multiple perspectives, and it has the potential to yield concrete, tangible benefits for the nation and its populace, argued Irakli Kobakhidze, the chairman of "Georgian Dream."

According to Kobakhidze, within the framework of the official visit to China, meetings were held with the head of the international department of the ruling party, Minister Liu Jianchao, the deputy minister, as well as with the leadership of the research center operated under the State Council.

Irakli Kobakhidze said, "We met with the head of the international department of the ruling party, Minister Liu Jinchao, as well as the deputy minister, and we also had a meeting with the leadership of the research center under the State Council. It is very interesting to talk about advancing cooperation. Last year was historic in terms of expanding relations between China and Georgia. A strategic partnership agreement was signed, and our goal is, naturally, to ensure the proper implementation of this cooperation agreement, and this is what our visit serves. There are many areas where relations can be advanced; of course, it is important to deepen the political aspect and economic relations, which should have very concrete, tangible results. We attach great importance to developing relations between Georgia and China".

Nikoloz Samkharadze, the chairman of the foreign relations committee of the Georgia parliament, said that the Georgian delegation's visit to Beijing is critical for the relations of the two countries. The Georgian side held meetings with the head of the foreign relations of the ruling party, and the main task of this visit was to deepen the relations between Georgia and China further.

Samkharadze spoke about the importance of the relationship between Georgia and China and noted that China’s support on priority issues for Georgia, such as the country's territorial integrity, is extremely important.

More specifically, Samkharadze argued: "You know that China is a permanent member of the UN Security Council. Therefore, it is important for us to support China on priority issues for Georgia. One of these is our territorial integrity. Accordingly, we had a discussion on this topic at the meeting today. Once again, we received a promise of unwavering support from China that China will constantly support the issue of Georgia's territorial integrity. Another important aspect is the trade and economic relations, including the development of the Middle Corridor as the shortest route from China to Europe and from Europe to China, where Georgia plays an important role. Also, we had a conversation about the current events in the world in general, including security challenges in the Black Sea region, as well as in the Middle East, Asia, etc. We had a very interesting and fruitful conversation. Our visit continues. We will have meetings with the Minister of Trade, we will also meet with the leadership of the National Congress, and here we will also have conversations on areas of mutual interest".

The visit is also important for Georgia's growing role in the Middle Corridor. Irakli Chikovani, the deputy Parliament Speaker, stated“The ongoing visit to China encompasses high-level meetings with representatives from the ruling party and executive authorities. This visit holds great importance as both countries have previously declared a statement of strategic partnership and cooperation. Additionally, Georgia's pivotal role in the country's economic development and the significant contribution to the development of the Middle Corridor, where China plays a substantial role, make this visit highly important. The delegation is optimistic that the visit will be successful, marking another positive step in fostering mutually beneficial relations”.
