Georgian Dream MP Addresses EU Steps and President's Role Amid Ivanishvili's Political Comeback

| News, Politics, Georgia

On January 4, Irakli Kadagishvili, the Georgian Dream MP and the Chairman of the Procedural Issues and Rules Committee, said in parliament that they have nothing to change with Salome Zourabichvili. According to the MP, Zourabichvili should be returned to the state position - if she returns to an important and useful position for the state, it will be good for her.

Kadagishvili pointed out that no one restricts the president's rights as stipulated by the constitution. "Jealousy damages the human psyche. One who follows jealousy in the political process will become a victim of his own doubts, as happened to the opposition due to jealousy. What is written by the law will be fulfilled according to the law. Everything is spelled out by the constitution and regulations, and do not artificially create resistance on the right path. The president will have the right to make a speech, but what the president will say and how useful her speech will be for the country is a completely different matter," he added.

Moreover, answering whether working groups will be created to fulfill the nine steps defined by the European Union, he said: "Bringing you a new concept, who said there had to be a 9-step task force? Part of the legislative decisions will be initiated by the government," Kadagishvili noted. According to him, the opposition has the opportunity to participate in the parliamentary formats defined by the regulations in the process related to the legislative amendments to be accepted within the framework of 9 steps. "None of the recommendations mentions a working group. Now, this word will become the subject of another controversy or speculation. It is written there that everyone should be involved. Everyone will have the opportunity to do so. There are constitutional bodies and procedures prescribed by law where the opposition has the opportunity to participate fully. According to our law and regulations, the opposition has the full right to work in all formats in today's parliament," Kadagishvili emphasized.

Furthermore, MP Kadagishvili answered the question about Ivanishvili's return to politics: "Because the opposition did not work well and threw the democratic process, the man was forced to enter politics - Bidzina Ivanishvili's return to politics is a very positive decision!"

The Georgian politician said that the issue of Ivanishvili's election as Prime Minister is not on the agenda at all. According to him, no government changes are planned at this stage, as was mentioned at the party congress. "There is no normal and serious political opposition in the country when the opposition does not have a real positive influence on the development of political processes and is only engaged in extreme marginalization; in such a situation, the government remains without democratic control, and certain risks may arise. Bidzina Ivanishvili spoke about these risks, and he is there to ensure these risks - this is a possible risk, not a fact. In this case, we are talking about the fact that the policy carried out by the 'Georgian Dream' should be adapted to prevent the emergence of corruption risks in the country," Kadagishvili noted.
