Georgian Dream MP Speculates on President Zourabichvili's Potential Resignation
On January 29, Georgian Dream MP Givi Mikanadze addressed journalists, expressing expectations and not ruling out the possibility of Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili resigning before the parliamentary elections and aligning herself with one of the political groups. Mikanadze highlighted the ongoing challenges posed by the "global war party" [hinting at the United National Movement] towards Georgia, emphasizing their failure to adapt to peace and stability in the country. He cited past electoral outcomes, including the unsuccessful Lelo and Gakharia projects, suggesting that current realignments are attempts to mislead the population.
According to Mikanadze, there is a purported effort to create a neutral wing by merging various figures from Lelo, Gakharia, Lomjaria, Nika Melia, and potentially Salome Zourabichvili, which he claims is essentially the National Movement 2 project. He criticized Zourabichvili for recent actions perceived as aligning with the radical opposition agenda, suggesting that such moves are against the country's interests.
Mikanadze cast doubt on the potential impact of Zourabichvili's resignation, indicating skepticism about significant outcomes. He pointed out that Zourabichvili's actions have been perceived negatively by society. Regarding the National Movement, Mikanadze highlighted internal divisions and conflicts within the party, suggesting that the crisis extends beyond power struggles to encompass genuine internal strife and dissatisfaction among members at various levels.
