During a briefing on November 28, Mamuka Mdinaradze, the executive secretary and chairperson of the Georgian Dream parliamentary fraction, stated that the party chose to submit the draft law on deoligarchization to the Venice Commission for its assessment.

According to MP Mdinaradze, the decision was made to not leave room for conjecture, and the nation and the Georgian Dream not to be blamed, and to honor the call of the allies. He stated that until the Venice Commission has issued its findings about the measure, Parliament will postpone examining the law at its third hearing. The MP made it clear that the only thing they ask is that the law is examined promptly and that the process is sped up and not happen as in the case of Ukraine, where it took more than a year to achieve a resolution.

The EU Delegation in Georgia praised the choice and stressed the need for consulting international standard-setters and implementing their advice.

US Embassy in Georgia Applauds

In connection with the bill on deoligarchization, US Ambassador to Georgia Kelly Degnan said that the most important thing is that the European Union firmly advised Georgia to send the Georgian legislation to the Venice Commission for review.

According to Degnan, this is the best way to understand that Georgian legislation considers the country's current situation. "This is a very complex and new field of law. Therefore, the United States agrees with the EU's firm advice to send the legislation to the Venice Commission for review," the Ambassador noted.
