Georgian Foreign Minister Holds Meetings with High-level Officials at UN

Meeting with Foreign Minister of Jordan

On September 24, a meeting between Ilia Darchiashvili, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, with Ayman Safadi, the Vice Prime Minister, and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Jordan was held within the framework of the UN General Assembly, the Press Office of the Georgian Foreign Ministry reported.

Ilia Darchiashvili and Ayman Safadi highly appreciated the friendly ties established between Georgia and Jordan and once again noted the importance of the historic visit of the Prime Minister of Georgia to the Kingdom of Jordan and the meeting with His Majesty King Abdullah II.

The ministers expressed their readiness to work actively to maintain and develop the ties. The activation of tourism and people-to-people contact between Jordan and Georgia was emphasized.

The meeting also touched on the relations between the two countries in international formats, once again emphasizing Georgia's successful cooperation with the Arab League organization and the Arab states in general.

Meeting with Foreign Minister of Kuwait

On the same day, Ilia Darchiashvili held a meeting with Sheikh Ahmed Nasser Al-Muhammad Al-Sabah, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kuwait. 

Within the framework of the meeting, the parties discussed the issues on the agenda of bilateral cooperation between Georgia and Kuwait and the perspectives of cooperation development.

It was noted with satisfaction that relations between the countries are actively developing both in bilateral and multilateral formats. In addition, the importance of further deepening ties in trade-economic and tourism directions was emphasized.

The increase in the number of visitors from Kuwait was assessed positively. The need to hold a meeting of the intergovernmental cooperation committee was noted, within the framework of which the cooperation between sectors will be discussed in detail.

Meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia

On September 24, within the framework of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia held a meeting with Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia congratulated his Saudi counterpart on the country's national day and wished peace and prosperity to Saudi Arabia and its people.

Within the framework of the meeting, the parties discussed the issues on the agenda between the two countries and the prospects for future cooperation. The intensified cooperation between the two countries in political, trade-economic, tourism and other fields was noted with satisfaction. The importance of high-level and high-level visits planned shortly was emphasized.

Meeting with Foreign Minister of Iceland

On September 23, a meeting was held between Ilia Darchiashvili and Sordis Kolbrun Gilvadottir, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iceland. The ministers discussed the issues of bilateral relations, cooperation within international organizations, and the prospects of intensifying relations.

The ministers welcomed the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Iceland and Georgia. They emphasized the special importance of the anniversary date for further strengthening of relations. Ministers agreed to intensify high-level communication. They also emphasized the importance of mutual support in international formats.

Meeting with Foreign Minister of Albania

On September 23, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia met with Olta Jachka, the Foreign Minister of Albania. Ilia Darchiashvili and Olta Jachka talked about the ways of developing and intensifying cooperation and high-level ties between Georgia and Albania, which is particularly important considering Georgia's European aspirations.

The ministers discussed the European Commission's decision to give Georgia a European perspective and the ongoing process of fulfilling the Commission's priorities. The importance of sharing Albania's experience on the path to joining the European Union was emphasized. The minister thanked his colleague for supporting Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity. Albania's political and practical involvement in NATO integration was also noted.

In the direction of bilateral relations, among other issues, attention was focused on the potential of cooperation in the field of economy and tourism. Ilia Darchiashvili invited his Albanian colleague for an official visit to Georgia.

Meeting with Foreign Minister of Turkey

On the same day, Ilia Darchiashvili and Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu talked about the current agenda of the strategic partnership between Georgia and Turkey, the high-level visits between the two countries, and their results.

The ministers also reviewed the cooperation between Georgia and Turkey in international formats and the issue of mutual support. The conversation touched on the successful regional formats of cooperation with the participation of Georgia and Turkey and the need to intensify efforts in this direction.

The ministers reviewed the current security environment in the region. They emphasized the importance of stability and peace for the region's sustainable development. Turkey's strong support for Georgia was underscored.

Ilia Darchiashvili thanked his colleague for Turkey's support during fire extinguishing works in Borjomi valley. The ministers confirmed their readiness to continue intensive high-level communication on all important strategic partnership issues.

Meeting of the foreign ministers of the transatlantic countries

On the same day, at the invitation of the US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, Ilia Darchiashvili participated in the meeting of the foreign ministers of the transatlantic countries, which was held in New York within the framework of the UN General Assembly.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Joseph Borrell were also present at the meeting.

The main issue of the meeting was Russia's military aggression in Ukraine and transatlantic security issues. The participants discussed the war in Ukraine, its impact on transatlantic security, and the assistance from the international community to Ukraine.

Meeting with Foreign Minister of Hungary

On September 22, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia held a meeting with Peter Szijjártó, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Hungary, within the framework of the UN General Assembly.

The ministers noted the active dynamics of communication between the countries, which is especially important in the process of effective implementation of the challenges in the region, as well as the goals and objectives of Georgia.

In this regard, the Hungarian side has once again expressed its readiness to help Georgia on the road to European integration from a practical point of view. The Hungarian side once again confirmed its strong support for Georgia in the way of the country's European integration goal.

Meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland

On the same day, Ilia Darchiashvili met Zbigniew Rau, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland,

At the meeting, the agenda of bilateral relations between Georgia and Poland and successful cooperation within the framework of international organizations were discussed. The ministers noted with satisfaction the friendly and partnership ties of the two countries and Poland's support for Georgia both on the path of the country's integration into the European Union and NATO, as well as on the issue of de-occupation of Georgian territories in international and bilateral formats.

The ministers emphasized the need to strengthen the ties between the two countries further and expressed their readiness to strengthen the existing cooperation formats. The meeting discussion touched on the region's security environment and the importance of the support of Georgia from the partners.

Meeting with US Assistant Secretary of State

On September 21, Ilia Darchiashvili met with the US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Karen Donfried.

During the conversation, the parties discussed the priority directions of the US-Georgia strategic partnership and regional security issues.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia welcomed the appointment of Ambassador Philip Ricker to the position of Senior Adviser on Caucasus Negotiations and US Representative in the Geneva International Discussions and noted that his involvement would add a new impetus to the efforts made in the direction of peace and stability in the region, as well as to the Geneva International Discussions.

The parties also discussed issues of strong strategic partnership between Georgia and the USA. They expressed readiness to continue working together to deepen cooperation between the countries, including strengthening democratic institutions in the field of defense and security and strengthening trade and economic ties.

Meeting with Foreign Minister of Luxembourg

On September 21, the head of the Foreign Ministry of Georgia met with Zhan Asselborn, his Luxembourg counterpart. The meeting of Ilia Darchiashvili and Zhan Asselborn took place within the framework of the UN General Assembly.

The successful cooperation between the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and Georgia was noted at the meeting, including Luxembourg's strong support for Georgia's European and Euro-Atlantic territorial integrity and sovereignty. The ministers reviewed the opportunities for the activation of bilateral relations. They especially emphasized the possibility of expanding trade and economic ties, considering that the country occupies a place in Georgia's top ten investing countries.

The ministers drew attention to the possibilities of cooperation in transport and logistics. They expressed their readiness to promote the involvement of representatives of relevant sectors in this direction.
