Georgian Foreign Minister Visits Hungary

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Ilia Darchiashvili, began his working visit to Hungary, where he met his Hungarian counterpart, Péter Szijjártó, on September 5 and also participated as an honored guest in the annual meeting of heads of diplomatic missions of Hungary abroad, where he addressed the Hungarian diplomats.

According to the information of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, within the framework of the visit, the "close friendly and partnership relations" between Georgia and Hungary were once again emphasized. Hungary's firm and unwavering support of the European integration process of Georgia was especially noted. In addition, information was exchanged about the steps Georgia is taking to implement the recommendations of the European Commission.

The head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry clearly stated that Hungary supports granting candidate status to Georgia and the country's further progress on this path. The press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia stated that the efforts made by Georgia and the implemented reforms will be reflected in the corresponding decision of the European Union on granting the country the status of a candidate.

Peter Szijártó emphasized that Hungary attaches great importance to cooperation with the Caucasus region and added that on October 11-12, a joint summit will be held in Tbilisi with the participation of Georgian and Hungarian government members.

At the meeting, Georgia's unique role for the European Union was emphasized in terms of security and diversification of energy resources and transit routes. According to the information of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, the ongoing partnership involving the two countries on the issue of the Black Sea submarine cable was once again positively evaluated.

The ministers, both at the bilateral meeting and within the framework of the ambassadorial meeting, highly appreciated the Georgian-Hungarian cooperation in various directions, as well as the mutual exchange of high-level visits, which contributes to the development of political, sectoral, trade-economic, and people-to-people relations between the countries. The ministers also discussed the security environment in the region.

According to the information of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Péter Szijjártó thanked his Georgian colleague for his visit to Budapest. On his part, Ilia Darchiashvili noted the importance of Hungary's support in light of the challenges facing Georgia. He expressed hope that with close coordination, important steps will be taken to deepen the ties between the countries.
