Georgian PM Engages in Strategic Financial Dialogues to Boost Economy

On May 2, a series of high-level meetings involving Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze took place with key international financial institutions.

Prime Minister Kobakhidze met with Bertrand Walckenaer, the Deputy CEO of the French Development Agency. The discussion focused on the pivotal financial support provided by AFD to strategic projects in Georgia, with Kobakhidze expressing gratitude for the agency's contributions. The dialogue also covered the fruitful bilateral relations between Georgia and France, especially in light of France's backing of Georgia's EU candidacy. Looking forward, both parties highlighted the positive outlook for further cooperation under the newly signed partnership agreement, aligning well with Georgian government priorities.

In a separate meeting, Kobakhidze engaged with Eugene Rhuggenaath, the Executive Director of the World Bank. This meeting celebrated three decades of productive partnership, emphasizing the World Bank's role in supporting significant sectors such as road infrastructure, energy, education, and agriculture, with investments totaling over $4 billion. The current portfolio includes 15 projects valued at $1.5 billion. Discussions also touched on Georgia’s focus on maintaining macroeconomic stability and implementing structural reforms, with the World Bank's initiatives playing a critical support role.

Kobakhidze also met with Teresa Czerwińska, the Vice President of the European Investment Bank. This meeting served to review and potentially expand the scope of future cooperation. The EIB has been instrumental in supporting key infrastructure and transport sector projects in Georgia, with investments reaching 1.6 billion euros in the public sector to date. The EIB reaffirmed its commitment to continue aiding Georgia across various sectors, reflecting positively on the country's economic growth indicators.
