Georgian PM Unveils Plan to Establish Country as Regional Transport Hub
During a government meeting on August 14, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili adopted the National Transport and Logistics Strategy 2023-2030 and the accompanying Action Plan 2023-2024.
The strategy includes a long-term vision, goals, and objectives to promote the establishment of Georgia as a regional transportation and logistics hub. The ministry pointed out that raising safety standards in the nation's transportation sector is planned since the strategy also emphasizes safeguarding the security of transportation operations.
According to the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, the primary goal of the 2023-2030 National Transport and Logistics Strategy and its Action Plan for 2023-2024 is to investigate the viability of building a high-speed railway between Georgia and its neighbors. The policy pays special attention to the development of transportation infrastructure, aiming to improve access to infrastructure and encourage mobility.
On August 16, the ministry stated that the Strategy Action Plan for 2023–2024 would include 48 activities. These activities involve the implementation of transportation infrastructure projects, the introduction of international standards and EU regulations/directives, the digitalization of the transportation and logistics sector, including the signing of bilateral and multilateral agreements for the promotion of international transport, the development of new educational programs in the field, and the digitization of transport documents.
