Georgia's foreign trade increased by 25.6% in 2021
According to preliminary statistics provided by the National Statistics Office (Geostat), Georgia's international trade turnover climbed by 25.6% year over year in 2021, reaching $14.3 billion.
Georgia's exports climbed by 26.9% yearly to $4.2 billion, while imports jumped by 25.1% to $10.1 billion. In the meantime, the trade deficit was $5.8 billion, accounting for 40.7% of total turnover.
Turkey led the list of Georgia's main commercial partners by turnover, with $2.1 billion, followed by $1.6 billion from Russia, $1.5 billion from China, $1.1 billion from Azerbaijan, and $820 million from the United States.
With $615.6 million in exports, China was Georgia's top commercial partner, followed by Russia with $610 million, Azerbaijan with $531.7 million, Turkey with $322.2 million, and Ukraine with $307.3 million.
In terms of imports, Turkey, Russia, China, the United States, and Azerbaijan were Georgia's major commercial partners, with $1.8 billion, $1 billion, $864.9 million, $625.3 million, and $604.4 million, respectively.
With $815.4 million in exports in 2021, copper ores and concentrates topped the list of export commodities. Ferroalloys accounted for $477.4 million, cars for $456.6 million, wine or fresh grapes for $239.3 million, spirits for $155.7 million, mineral waters for $141.8 million, nitrogen fertilizers for USD 119.5 million, nuts for $118.3 million, medicines for $99.1 million, gold for $64.2 million, and other commodities for $1.6 billion.
Regarding 2021 imports, cars came in first with $898.8 million, followed by petroleum oils – $822.6 million, copper ores and concentrates – $736.1 million, medicines – $382 million, petroleum gases – $354.6 million, telephone sets – $222.2 million, automatic data processing machines – $147.7 million, vaccines, blood, and immune products – $119.9 million.
