Georgia's New Foreign Minister Outlines Policy Priorities

On December 2, Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze met with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs senior officials to formally introduce Maka Botchorishvili as the newly appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister extended his best wishes to Minister Botchorishvili, emphasizing her responsibility to safeguard Georgia’s national interests.

Maka Botchorishvili expressed her gratitude to the Prime Minister for his trust and highlighted the ministry team's professionalism and dedication to advancing Georgia's priorities. She outlined her plans to engage with departmental representatives to identify key focus areas and develop action plans. The Prime Minister addressed the challenges facing Georgia and outlined the government's foreign policy priorities, including advancing European Union integration. He noted that by 2028, over 90% of the commitments under the Association Agenda and the Free Trade Agreement with the EU would be fulfilled. Additionally, he emphasized strengthening relations with the US, enhancing cooperation with partner countries, and addressing regional security issues. The Prime Minister also expressed appreciation for the contributions of the former Minister, Ilia Darchiashvili, and the ministry staff in advancing Georgia’s development.

On the same day, Maka Botchorishvili spoke with Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister, Jeyhun Bayramov. Minister Bayramov congratulated his Georgian counterpart on her appointment and wished her success. Both ministers reaffirmed the importance of the strategic partnership between Georgia and Azerbaijan and expressed commitment to deepening cooperation. They highlighted the significance of maintaining high-level exchanges and ensuring long-term peace in the South Caucasus. Minister Botchorishvili expressed gratitude for Azerbaijan’s support of Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity while reaffirming Georgia’s steadfast support for Azerbaijan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
