German Chancellor Emphasizes Importance of Georgia Joining EU
Olaf Scholz, the German chancellor, pushed for a gradual switch to majority voting as a step toward expanding the European Union to include Ukraine, Moldova, and Georgia in the future. Scholz encouraged the EU's 27 countries to close ranks, overcome old issues, and find new solutions in the face of Russia's invasion of Ukraine and said that Germany will continue to back Kyiv for as long as it takes.
Scholz reaffirmed Germany's support for EU enlargement and emphasised the importance of the Western Balkans, Ukraine, Moldova, and eventually Georgia joining the organization. "The inequalities between the member states in terms of political interests, economic clout, and social security systems will deepen in this extended Union," he said.
