High-Level Delegation from Iran Visits Azerbaijan: Discussions Over Embassy Attack

On August 8, the delegation of Iran's Deputy Prosecutor General for Security and Political Affairs, Mehdi Amiri Isfahani, foreign affairs, and other relevant state institutions started a working trip to Azerbaijan. A meeting was held between Prosecutor General Kamran Aliyev and the delegation led by Mehdi Amiri Isfahani, the Deputy Prosecutor General of Iran.

According to the information, the sides discussed the investigations into the terrorist attack on the Azerbaijani Embassy in Iran on January 27 this year. "A full and comprehensive investigation of the criminal case by the Prosecutor General of Iran, identification and prosecution of all participants, as well as the inactivity of law enforcement officers at the time of the incident, the verification of the causes and circumstances of the commission of this terrorist act, and all persons who committed the crime and those connected with the crime, according to the law stressed the necessity of giving a decent punishment," it added.

Mehdi Amiri Isfahani expressed his regret over the attack on the Azerbaijani Embassy in Tehran in January of this year and expressed his condolences to the people of Azerbaijan and the family members of those who were martyred as a result of the incident. In addition, he gave detailed information about the progress of the criminal case investigation and said that the investigation will be completed in a short period, a legal decision will be made in the case, and the guilty persons will receive a decent punishment.

The Press Service informed that within the framework of the visit, the delegation would hold meetings with the participation of the prosecutor's office and relevant investigative agencies and discuss the investigation of the criminal case and other relevant issues.

On January 27, 2023, there was an armed attack on the embassy of Azerbaijan in Tehran. As a result of the attack, the head of the security service of the diplomatic mission was killed, and two other guards were injured. Tehran police said they arrested the suspect.
