How Did South Caucasus Countries React to Recent Hamas Attack on Israel?

On October 7, the large-scale surprise attack by Gaza militants on Israel left hundreds of Israelis dead. "Citizens of Israel, we are at war – not in an operation, not in rounds – at war," Netanyahu said in a video message.

Mohammed Al-Deif, the military chief of Hamas, called the operation "Al-Aqsa Storm" and said it was a retaliation for assaults on women, the destruction of the Al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem, and the continued blockade of Gaza.

Armenia

Official Yerevan declared that it is shocked by the violence between the Palestinians and Israel and the targeting of the civilian population. Yerevan expressed condolences to the victims' relatives and wished the injured a speedy recovery. "We join the international calls to stop the violence," the statement of the Armenian Foreign Ministry posted on X's page said.

Azerbaijan

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan condemned the violence against civilians in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict zone. "We call for an immediate de-escalation of the situation," the ministry's statement on the X (former Twitter) said.

The statement of the working group on inter-parliamentary relations between Azerbaijan and Israel noted that the working group strongly condemns the attacks against Israel from the territory of the Gaza Strip, which were accompanied by rocket attacks that deliberately targeted civilian objects, residential areas, and people. "The working group on inter-parliamentary relations between Azerbaijan and Israel offers our condolences to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives in these merciless attacks and pray for the healing of the injured. We are with the people of Israel in this difficult time," the statement said.

Moreover, Rasim Musabayov, a working group member on inter-parliamentary relations between Azerbaijan and Israel, condemned the attack against Israel. "We strongly condemn the attacks that resulted in the death and injury of numerous civilians. We are with the people of Israel in this difficult time," Musabayov added.

Georgia

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili strongly condemned "the terrible terrorist attack" on Israel and its citizens. In his social media post, Garibashvili extended heartfelt condolences to the Government and people of Israel, wishing a speedy recovery to all those injured.

Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili said she was deeply concerned with the recent escalation in Israel and the loss of innocent human lives. She stressed Georgia stood in full solidarity with Israel in these difficult moments. Zourabichvili emphasized that terror and inhumanity should have no place in the modern world.

Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili condemned "unjustified, brutal, and inhumane aggression" against Israel. In his social media post, Papuashvili expressed the Georgian people's support for brotherly Israel and stressed that there should be no place for such violence in the world.
