Irakli Kobakhidze: United National Movement is Collapsing
On April 26, Irakli Kobakhidze, the chairman of the ruling Georgian Dream, said that the United National Movement is already having a hard time, including in terms of ratings. According to Kobakhidze, the National Movement is disintegrating, but it is necessary to neutralize the "collective National Movement" along with them.
“This political party is collapsing, and the process will definitely continue. In the end, these processes should continue until 2024 so that the National Movement is no longer a factor in Georgian politics. However, one thing should be emphasized here, it doesn't matter whether the second force in the political system will remain a formal National Movement or any other political force that will actually be the National Movement. The National Movement is a collective phenomenon and includes Lelo, Gakharia's party, Vashadze's party, Zura Japaridze, Khoshtaria, etc. Together they are a collective National Movement. Therefore, the main thing is not the neutralization of the National Movement as a political party in our political system, but it is necessary to neutralize the collective National Movement, and society's efforts should be directed towards this,” Kobakhidze added.
As previously reported by Caucasus Watch, Georgian Dream Chairman Irakli Kobakhidze said it was time to neutralize the former ruling United National Movement (UNM) party founded by ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili.
