Iran Accuses Israel of Deteriorating Its Relations with Azerbaijan

At a briefing held in Tehran on April 17, Nasser Kanaani, the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran, said that the relations between Iran and Azerbaijan have enemies. "There is no doubt about it. The Zionist regime uses its national security strategy and survival strategy to increase instability and insecurity in the region, and especially in the Islamic region," he added.

According to the diplomat, Iran realized the concerns that some people in the diplomatic process benefited from creating discord in the relations between Iran and Azerbaijan and tried to eliminate the tension with diplomatic initiatives. "Fortunately, the three rounds of talks between the foreign ministers were positive. We reached a common approach to get out of the current situation and reduce the tension between the two countries. Actions and steps were determined based on this, and we are moving in this direction. We hope to direct the relations between the two countries, which should be based on good neighborly policy and relations based on common interests, to their natural, appropriate, and useful course. We have tried to continue our efforts in this direction and will continue to do so," Kanaani stressed.

As previously reported by Caucasus Watch, on April 14, a telephone conversation was held between the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Iran, Jeyhun Bayramov and Hossein Amir-Abdollahian. During the conversation, the ministers discussed the current state of bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Iran. "The parties said that it is possible to continue the negotiations and to carry out bilateral visits if necessary. At the same time, the ministers exchanged views on regional issues", the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan said.
