On October 4, Khalaf Khalafov, the representative of the President of Azerbaijan on Special Tasks, met with Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali-Akbar Ahmadian.

Khalaf Khalafov discussed bilateral relations with the Iranian Foreign Minister. Regional and international issues were also exchanged at the meeting.

During Khalafov's meeting with the Iranian President, Raisi said that maintaining and improving stability in the Caucasus depends on the cooperation of regional countries capable of solving regional problems. He added that the presence of countries outside the region does not benefit the region's countries, and the region's geopolitics should remain unchanged.

For his part, Ali-Akbar Ahmadian stressed that Iran is against any plan that could change the region's geopolitics, especially regarding the Zangezur Corridor in the Caucasus. "Any action that will lead to geopolitical changes in the region, as suggested by others regarding the Zangazur Corridor, will not only not help the region's countries but will also create grounds for the intervention of forces outside the region," he said. Ahmadian stressed Iran's policy regarding Nagorno-Karabakh being a part of Azerbaijan's territory and added that Iran is ready to help the region's countries come together to establish lasting peace. "Zangazur Corridor is a big obstacle to the peace agreement. The transport route will provide unhindered access to Azerbaijan's Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic without Armenian checkpoints," he said.

During the meeting, Khalafov specifically noted Azerbaijan's policy of maintaining regional peace and stability and resolving disputes through regional frameworks.
