Iranian Ambassador to Armenia: "Armenia's Security is Iran's Security"

On January 20, Gnel Sanosyan, the Armenian Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructures, visited Syunik with Abbas Badakhshan Zohouri, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Armenia.

At a press conference Zohouri stated : "Iran follows a policy of developing cooperation in all fields with neighboring countries. And Armenia is our neighbor, a friendly country, and we have this policy with Armenia as well. Iran's foreign minister said earlier that Armenia's security is Iran's security, and Iran's position has always been that the independence and territorial integrity of countries, including Armenia and others, should be preserved in line with international laws," Yohouri emphasized. 

When asked about the construction of the third power transmission line between the two countries, the Iranian Ambassador told reporters that cooperation with Armenia in various domains is highly important for Iran.“What comes to the third high-voltage line, I have to say that there’ve been some problems, the work had a long delay in the past. But now the work is proceeding better and at a faster pace," the ambassador said. Zohouri also expressed hope that the electricity transmission line will be operated soon. 

"Cooperation with Armenia in various directions is very important for us. The cooperation between Armenia, Iran, and Russia can be a model for trilateral cooperation in different directions in the region," the Iranian ambassador concluded. 

Armenian Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructures Hakob Vardanyan considers it realistic to complete the construction of the third Armenia-Iran power transmission line by year-end. The loan for the construction is issued by the Export Development Bank of Iran, and the contractor is the Iranian company, Samir
