Iranian Politician Warns Ilham Aliyev About Escalating Situation in Karabakh
On March 24, Alirza Monadi, a representative of Tabriz in Iran's Islamic Consultative Council, said that Ilham Aliyev should not jeopardize his relative peace.
Alirza Monadi noted: "We ask Aliyev not to endanger the life and relative peace of his people by his actions in the conditions of the economic crisis in the world. Our border with Armenia is one of the country's assets, and we hope that Aliyev will not make the wrong decision because we have friendly relations with Azerbaijan, and these actions can only weaken our relations."
The Iranian politician added: "The Islamic Republic will not allow cutting our border with Armenia. Armenia also wants to keep this border, so no one should interfere with this."
As previously reported by Caucasus Watch, on the evening of May 25, it was announced that the Azerbaijani army had made advances in Nagorno-Karabakh. According to a statement from the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense, the Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan had taken control of the ground roads that were allegedly used for the transfer of arms, ammunition, and personnel by Armenia to Karabakh.
