Jeyhun Bayramov and Josep Borrell hold eighteenth meeting of Cooperation Council between the European Union and Azerbaijan

On July 19, the eighteenth meeting of the Cooperation Council between the European Union and Azerbaijan was held in Brussels. At the end of the meeting, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, and the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Relations and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, made press statements, the Press Office of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry reported.

The Press Service of the European Union stated that Azerbaijan is an important partner of the European Union and a strategic energy partner supplying natural gas and oil to Europe, thus contributing to the European Union's efforts to diversify its energy resources.

"The European Union is interested in further expansion of cooperation with Azerbaijan, including the conclusion of a new EU-Azerbaijan comprehensive agreement and an agreement on the common aviation area. These agreements will benefit all citizens of both the European Union and Azerbaijan. is as loyal as before," the information states.

"The Council also discussed human rights, democracy and the rule of law. As stated by both sides in their partnership priorities for 2019, extended until 2024, they are at the centre of EU-Azerbaijan relations. The European Union is committed to creating favourable conditions for an active civil society. , also stressed the importance of observing human rights, fundamental freedoms and the rule of law in accordance with international standards and obligations," the document states.

"The European Union has reaffirmed its strong commitment to providing assistance to a secure, stable and prosperous South Caucasus. The European Union has emphasized its commitment to support the parties in progressing towards a comprehensive peaceful settlement between Azerbaijan and Armenia. In addition, the European Union will support the population's preparation for a long-term sustainable world through positive and constructive public rhetoric. "The European Union also emphasized its support by providing aid to the elimination of the consequences of the conflict, including demining and other unresolved humanitarian issues," the statement said.
