Joint Georgia-Turkey-Azerbaijan Exercises

The joint exercise "Caucasian Eagle 2022" started in Georgia on October 11 with the participation of military personnel of the special operations forces of Georgia, Turkey, and Azerbaijan. This year the training is hosted by Georgia.

According to the Ministry of Defense of Georgia, the purpose of the training is to deepen the synchronization and coordination of special forces capabilities by the special operations units of the Defense Forces of Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Turkey, as well as to share experience, increase interoperability and improve management and control in a multinational environment.

According to the same information, the special purpose groups participating in the exercise will share their experience in firing and medical training, fighting in a populated area, and performing special operations.

The opening ceremony of training was held in Mukhrovani, at the special purpose training center named after Major Gela Chedia. The participants were addressed by the Deputy Commander of the Defense Forces of Georgia, Brigadier General Irakli Chichinadze, and the Commander of the Special Operations Forces of the Defense Forces, Colonel Teimuraz Klateishvili.

Training is held annually in all three countries on the principle of rotation. Last year, the exercise was hosted by Turkey.

On October 7, it was announced that Georgia would receive NATO-standard armored vehicles from Turkey. The agreement between the Ministry of Defense of Georgia and the company "ASFAT" under the Ministry of National Defense of the Republic of Turkey was signed today, October 7, based on which the defense forces will receive new high-terrain armored vehicles.
