Kalmykia and Stavropol Territory lead in the increase in extremist crimes index

| News, North Caucasus

At the end of 2021, Kalmykia and the Stavropol Territory entered the top 15 regions in terms of the increase in extremist crimes. At the same time, Dagestan and the Stavropol Territory retain the leadership in the absolute number of such crimes in the North Caucasus, according to the Russian Prosecutor General's Office.

Kalmykia took sixth place in the country in terms of the increase in extremist crimes - in January-November last year (more complete statistics for the whole year have not yet been tallied) the number of such crimes here increased by 300%. In the Stavropol Territory, this figure was 121%.

A significant increase in the number of registered extremist crimes was also noted in Chechnya (by 100%) and in North Ossetia (by 66%). A decrease in this indicator by 53% was noted in Kabardino-Balkaria, as well as in Ingushetia by 37%.

As the Prosecutor General's Office notes, a significant increase in extremist crimes in Kalmykia is associated with their small number in the republic - four such crimes were registered there in 11 months, therefore even one incident significantly increases the percentage.

In Russia as a whole, the growth in the number of extremist crimes amounted to 25%.

In the North Caucasus, the worst situation is in Dagestan with 52 extremist crimes registered. This is the third place in the country after Moscow and Kuzbass. On the fourth line of the rating is the Stavropol Territory (31 crimes), the Krasnodar Territory has 11 places (23 crimes).

In total, 983 extremist crimes were registered in Russia in January-November 2021.

The Absheron District Court of the Krasnodar Territory sentenced a 32-year-old local resident accused of participating in the Tablighi Jamaat movement to seven years in prison. This organisation is recognised as extremist and banned in Russia.

The Ministry of National Policy and Religious Affairs of Dagestan was ready to pay 8 thousand euros for the creation of a documentary film "How I Became the Wife of an Extremist." The winner was a company from Pyatigorsk, whose activities include gambling and dry cleaning services.
