Karabakh Armenians Receive Humanitarian Aid through Aghdam Route

After waiting for two days in the city of Barda in Azerbaijan, on September 12, the humanitarian aid vehicle sent by the Russian Red Cross Society to the Karabakh region entered the territory controlled by the Russian Peacekeeping Contingent.

Aykhan Hajizada, the Press Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, said that in coordination with the Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society, the passage of the Russian truck through the Aghdam route to Stepanakert/Khankendi was ensured. "Despite the problems and provocations committed by the so-called regime of Armenia in the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan, we consider the passage of the cargo sent by Russia through the Aghdam-Khankendi road in a coordinated manner with Azerbaijan as a positive step and an important progress towards the opening of this road," he noted.

Regarding the issue of simultaneous use of the Aghdam-Stepanakert/Khankendi and Lachin roads, Hajizada said that, as Azerbaijan mentioned during high-level contacts with the United States and other partners, Azerbaijan agreed to the issue of the simultaneous use of these two roads through the ICRC. "We once again declare that the Azerbaijani side is ready to create conditions for the transportation of cargo through the ICRC by following the border and customs procedures at the Lachin border checkpoint, parallel to the Aghdam-Khankendi road," he said.

Hayk Shamiryan, the de-facto mayor of Asgaran city of the Karabakh region, confirmed that the humanitarian aid truck sent by the Russian Federation reached Stepanakert. "Concerned citizens who gathered near the 'Tank' monument first protested by not letting the car into Karabakh, then they reached an agreement, and the truck of the Red Cross Society of the Russian Federation entered Stepanakert, accompanied by the police," Hayk Shamiryan noted.
