Lukashenko Criticizes Armenia's Absence at EAEU Summit
On June 26, Alexander Lukashenko, the President of Belarus, addressed the absence of the Armenian delegation during the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) summit in Minsk, suggesting it reflected deeper issues within the union itself.
During his remarks, Lukashenko questioned Armenia’s decision not to attend, stating, "Why did Armenia take such a position? Probably, not everything is in order here, and we cannot ignore this. If something is happening, it cannot be the fault of only one side." He indicated that unresolved problems within the organization may have influenced Yerevan’s absence.
Lukashenko also criticized the slow progress in achieving the EAEU’s strategic objectives, pointing out that 18 of the union’s key targets remain unfulfilled by 2025. The Belarusian leader acknowledged a general reluctance to address these difficult matters but insisted on the need for decisive action. He emphasized, "If we stand still, others will catch up with us, trample us, and move ahead," urging member states to work towards making the union as attractive and competitive as possible.
