On May 20, in her Telegram channel, Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, reacted to the reaction of some Georgian politicians to the resumption of air communication between Russia and Georgia.

Zakharova stressed that only those who do not care about their own citizens and do not help them in difficult life situations could oppose the resumption of air traffic. "If you represent your people and not an order paid by someone, you cannot be against a direct flight, given the number of citizens and families living in two countries at the same time," she stated.

In her opinion, politicians who oppose flights do not think about their people. "And this whole story is an indicator of the presence or absence of not a political position, but love for those whom you care about in words," the official emphasized.

Notably, on May 10, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a document lifting the ban on direct flights with Georgia, which had been in force since the summer of 2019. Putin's decision came into force immediately after it was signed. On the same day, Putin issued a second decree allowing Georgian citizens to enter Russia without a visa for up to 90 days from May 15.
