Maria Zakharova Reacts to Alen Simonyan's Remarks About Her and Complains About Armenian Media Criticizing Russia

| News, Politics, Armenia

On September 7, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova reacted to statements made about her by the Chairman of the National Assembly of Armenia Alen Simonyan. It should be recalled that Alen Simonyan, in a verbal altercation with the Russian Foreign Ministry, disparagingly called the speaker of the Russian Foreign Ministry “some secretary”.

Zakharova tried to react to the Armenian parliament speaker's statement with irony: "It's hard to argue that there are obvious problems with the level [of Simonyan's statements]. And I want to say words of support to all 'secretaries' of the planet. Friends! Your work is the key to the success of even the most high-ranking boss. Without your daily hard work, including scheduling, organizing meetings, working with documents, receiving calls, and a million different worries, everything will go to waste. Don't take offense, this person, I'm sure, blurted it out without thinking. Do not extend your attitude towards what he said to the Armenian people. The Armenian people are wise, long-suffering, and loving," she emphasized.

On the same day, in her greeting to the participants of the Russian-Armenian Media Forum in Yerevan, Zakharova said that Armenia's information space has recently been characterized by a distinct tendency to disseminate one-sided and negative reports about Russia, which cannot satisfy either side.

"I think neither you nor we can be satisfied with the distinct tendency prevailing recently in Armenia's information space to disseminate one-sided, negative, and often simply untrue information about Russia and Russian-Armenian relations. This, of course, contradicts the traditionally friendly nature of communication between the two peoples," Zakharova said.

The Spokeswoman emphasized, "Moscow considers inadmissible attempts to stir up enmity between Russia and Armenia by blaming Russia for all the misfortunes of the Armenian people."

Moreover, Maria Zakharova stated that Russia is the leading foreign investor in Armenia's economy, besides, Moscow shows constant and sincere interest in the fate of this country - its CSTO ally.

"The leadership of the Russian Federation shows constant and sincere interest in the fate of its CSTO ally," the diplomat emphasized. She drew attention to the fact that the tangible result of this attention is the rapid development of economic ties between the two countries. "Russia is the main foreign investor in Armenia's economy: 40% of all capital investments, more than 2.2 billion dollars," she noted.

According to her, in order to preserve all this, it is necessary to maintain a healthy information background of Russian-Armenian ties. "Russia, for its part, is interested in seeking ways to rectify the situation together, honestly and in a constructive manner," the Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman pointed out. Zakharova urged: “Do not give in to provocations. Our common history and our common future will endure it all.”
