Marta Kos Says Armenia-Azerbaijan Peace Process Reshaping South Caucasus
On October 20, Marta Kos, the EU Commissioner for Enlargement, stated that progress in the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia was reshaping the political and economic dynamics of the South Caucasus. Marta Kos emphasized that, for the first time in decades, the region had a genuine opportunity to open trade and transport routes linking Europe and Asia. "Countries from Europe to the borders of China recognize the importance of this moment. They are all here in Luxembourg today. This is a first," she emphasized.
A ministerial meeting on regional security and interregional connectivity was held in Luxembourg on the same day, with [Azerbaijan]([insert original URL]) represented by Deputy Foreign Minister Yalchin Rafiyev. The European Commissioner highlighted that EU member states aimed to establish a new connectivity infrastructure to enhance their autonomy, expand trade opportunities, diversify energy sources, and improve digital data transmission. She noted that such initiatives would bring greater independence to all participants along the route. Kos underscored that "our work is a contribution to peace," explaining that practical cooperation, interconnected markets, and connected societies could ensure long-term stability and prosperity in the South Caucasus. She added that the Luxembourg meeting was only the beginning and would be followed by an investment forum, including participation from the United States, in November.
