On February 25, Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili held a series of meetings during the 58th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva.

During her meeting with Jürg Lauber, President of the UN Human Rights Council, Minister Botchorishvili congratulated him on his election and discussed cooperation within the Council’s framework. She reaffirmed Georgia’s commitment to fulfilling its obligations as a Council member (2023–2025) and emphasized active collaboration with international partners to protect vulnerable groups, including women, children, persons with disabilities, and those affected by conflict.

Botchorishvili also highlighted the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Georgia’s Russian-occupied territories, criticizing Moscow’s continued non-compliance with international obligations, which she said obstructs international monitoring efforts. Both officials stressed the importance of supporting the UN resolution on "Cooperation with Georgia" and keeping the issue of Georgia’s occupied territories on the UN agenda. The role of the Geneva International Discussions in conflict resolution was also underscored, along with the need for Russia to comply with its international obligations.

Later, Minister Botchorishvili met with Slovak Foreign Minister Juraj Blanár to review Georgia-EU relations. She expressed gratitude for Slovakia’s consistent support of Georgia’s European integration, both bilaterally and on international platforms. The ministers also discussed current developments in their respective countries, reaffirming their commitment to strengthening cooperation and maintaining mutual respect in dialogue.

Minister Botchorishvili then met with Volker Türk, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, who acknowledged Georgia’s active participation in the Council’s high-level segment. Their discussion focused on the security and humanitarian situation in Georgia’s occupied territories and the need for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.

The importance of the Geneva International Discussions format was reiterated, and it was noted that Georgia would again present the UN resolution on "Cooperation with Georgia." Minister Botchorishvili emphasized the need for international monitoring mechanisms to access the occupied territories, while broader security concerns and recent geopolitical developments were also discussed.

Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to continued cooperation on human rights issues.
