Mirzoyan and Bochorishvili Discuss Regional Peace Efforts and Economic Cooperation Amid Security Challenges
On 30 January Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Bochorishvili discussed regional issues, with Armenia supporting the idea of unblocking communications and Georgia reaffirming its commitment to regional stability.
Ararat Mirzoyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, underlined Armenia's consistent position on unblocking regional communications and expressed the country's support for this initiative. He mentioned Armenia's constructive proposals to Azerbaijan and noted the potential for significant economic benefits from the unblocking process. According to Mirzoyan, Armenia's approach, which is in line with the "Crossroads of Peace" project, is based on principles such as territorial integrity, national sovereignty over communications and national legislation. He also highlighted the wider regional benefits, stating that the simplification of logistics in the 21st century could benefit all countries involved.
Maka Bochorishvili, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, expressed Georgia's commitment to peace and stability in the region. She noted that Georgia is ready to work with Armenia and Azerbaijan to achieve a peace treaty acceptable to both sides. Bochorishvili also acknowledged the security challenges posed by Russia's occupation of Georgian territory and reiterated that both Armenia and Georgia support each other's sovereignty and territorial integrity. She also welcomed Armenia's deepening relations with the EU and the US, which she saw as beneficial for the region.
Commenting on the 14th session of the Armenia-Georgia Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation, Bochorishvili underlined its importance, noting the participation of the Prime Ministers of the two countries in the meeting. She underlined the strong relations between Armenia and Georgia in various fields such as economy, transport, environment and tourism and expressed Georgia's readiness to promote regional peace and stability. Mirzoyan agreed with his Georgian counterpart's assessment, but deferred detailed discussions to the Prime Ministers.
Bochorishvili also recalled the Strategic Partnership Document signed last year, which underlined the centuries-old friendship between Armenia and Georgia. She noted that the document would further stimulate bilateral cooperation in various fields and strengthen the foundations of their relations.
