Nakhchivan to Connect Power Grid with Iran

On September 18, the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan was set to connect its power grid with Iran through the 132 kV Julfa-Julfa overhead power transmission line, which will link to the Julfa substation, according to the Cabinet of Ministers of Nakhchivan.
The existing 132/110/10 kV Julfa substation, originally built in the late 1990s and operated for many years, is currently undergoing reconstruction and relocation to remove high-voltage power lines from residential areas.
As part of the upgrade, two new 110/35/10 kV transformers, each with a capacity of 16 MVA, have been purchased. One of the transformers has already been delivered to Nakhchivan and is being installed, while the second is expected to arrive soon. The substation will also be connected to one double-circuit 110 kV overhead power transmission line circuit, extending from the 36 MW Ordubad Hydroelectric Power Station to the 87 MW Nakhchivan Modular Power Station.
The new substation aims to improve the quality of electricity supply in Julfa city and the villages of Yayji and Diza. It will also play a key role in reducing technical losses in the electricity network. Additionally, the existing 10 kV power line that currently serves these areas will be upgraded to a 35 kV voltage level and will be powered by the new substation.
