Parliament Committee Clears Final Reading of Law Opening EU Market to Armenian Fish Exports
The Armenian parliament’s Standing Committee on Economic Affairs approved, in the second and final reading, a legislative package amending the Law on Food Safety and related legislation to enable Armenian fish and fish products to meet European Union export requirements.
Presenting the draft, Deputy Minister of Economy Tatevik Sargsyan said the amendments create the legal framework for registering Armenian fish farms, processing enterprises, and storage facilities in the European Union's Trade Control and Expert System (TRACES). The legislation also sets out procedures for registering and deregistering Armenian economic operators in the system and for issuing the veterinary health certificates required for exporting fish and fish products to EU member states.
Sargsyan said the law will take effect the day after its official publication, with the necessary implementing regulations to be adopted within two months. After a brief discussion, the committee approved the package, part of Armenia’s broader push to align its food safety standards with EU requirements and widen access for Armenian agricultural exports to the European market.
