"Party of Cause" lost their case for registration in the elections in North Ossetia

| News, North Caucasus

The Court of Cassation upheld the decision to deny registration of the "Party of Cause" candidates to the meeting of representatives of North Ossetia.

The refusal to register relates to the struggle against political rivals, said Taimuraz Bekoev, chairman of the “Party of the Cause” branch in the Right-Bank District of North Ossetia. “Probably the most advanced technology by the election commission was used in relation to us - not to allow us to participate in elections due to the inconsistency of formal procedures related to the nomination of a candidate,” Bekov said.

According to him, the territorial election commission named July 19 as the last day for receiving documents for registering party lists, although according to the TEC's calendar plan, documents were to be accepted until August 4. There were 24 candidates on the list of the "Party of Cause" (the publication is included by the Russian Ministry of Justice in the register of foreign media agents).

“On the last day of the reception, a queue formed, we waited for several hours. At 19.30, the TEC chairman came out and invited him into the office, but at that time the authorised representative of the party was absent - she left for just a couple of minutes. The chairman refused to wait a couple of minutes and began to draw up an act of the working group. The document has not yet been drawn up and printed, we with an authorised representative entered the office, but we were denied registration of documents," Bekoev explained.

The "Party of the Cause" case was denied first by the court, then by the Supreme Court of North Ossetia, and on September 10 - by the Fourth Cassation Court in Krasnodar. Bekoev said the party would appeal to the Russian Supreme Court, the publication said.

The Supreme Court of North Ossetia, considering the appeal, considered that “July 19 was indeed the last day for receiving documents.” The arguments of the appeal were the subject of verification during the district court’s consideration of the case, and they were given a proper legal assessment. “They boil down to an incorrect interpretation of the norms of substantive and procedural law, do not refute the legality of the court's decision, and therefore cannot serve as a basis for cancelling the court decision," - stated in the decision of August 16, published on the court's website.

In parallel with the claim of the "Party of Cause" in North Ossetia, complaints from other political parties, which were denied certification of lists, are also being considered. In the Pravoberezhny district, the local electoral commission refused to register candidates from the “Civil Initiative,” in the Ardonsky district, the Yabloko party was suing the local electoral commission, and the lists of Communists of Russia were not registered in municipal elections in three districts, Pravoberezhny, Prigorodny and Alagirsky, reported on September 10.
