Pashinyan, Macron Discuss Armenia-France Cooperation and Regional Peace in Paris

During a meeting at the Élysée Palace, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan reaffirmed Armenia’s commitment to the peace agenda in discussions with French President Emmanuel Macron.

According to the Armenian PM's press office, Macron welcomed the Armenian PM's visit and praised his participation in the upcoming Artificial Intelligence Action Summit in Paris. He also highlighted the ongoing expansion of Armenia-France relations and reiterated France's support for Armenia's development and stability.

Pashinyan expressed gratitude for France’s warm hospitality and noted that 2024 has been a particularly dynamic year for Armenia-France ties.

“Numerous meetings have taken place between the leaders and governmental bodies of the two countries. Armenia-France relations have reached a new level,” a statement from Pashinyan’s office reads.

The two leaders reviewed bilateral cooperation and explored prospects for joint economic, infrastructure, road construction, energy, education, and tourism programs.

Pashinyan and Macron also discussed the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace process, border delimitation, and regional developments. The unblocking of regional transportation routes as part of Armenia’s Crossroads of Peace project was a key topic.

The Armenian PM reaffirmed his government’s commitment to peace, emphasizing the need for stability in the South Caucasus.

The leaders also exchanged views on strengthening Armenia-EU cooperation and the continuation of democratic reforms in Armenia.

Macron Reaffirms France’s Support for Armenia’s Territorial Integrity and Sovereignty

French President Emmanuel Macron reiterated France’s unwavering support for Armenia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, according to a press release from the Élysée Palace following his meeting with Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan in Paris.

The meeting took place on February 10, 2025, as part of the Artificial Intelligence Action Summit, where Macron thanked Pashinyan for Armenia's participation, emphasizing the alignment of views between Armenia and the EU on innovation and technology. The leaders agreed to expand energy, defense, and transport cooperation projects.

Discussing regional security, Macron reaffirmed France’s full support for the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan and the signing of a peace treaty in accordance with international law. He also stressed France’s commitment to Armenia’s sovereignty, security, and democratic aspirations.

“The [French] Head of State confirmed France’s full support for the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as for the signing of a peace treaty in accordance with international law. Also, he confirmed France’s determination to support the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Armenia, as well as the aspirations of the Armenian people for peace, security, and democracy,” the Élysée Palace statement read.

Macron and Pashinyan also discussed Armenia’s hosting of COP17 on biodiversity in 2026. The French President assured France’s full readiness to assist Armenia in preparing for the international conference.
