Pezeshkian Discusses Trade, University Collaboration, Cultural Ties, and Mutual Travel with Azerbaijan

On April 28, Masoud Pezeshkian, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, emphasized the potential for strengthening Iran-Azerbaijan relations in an interview with AzTV, stating that both nations can support each other through various forms of cooperation.
During the interview, Pezeshkian highlighted the importance of fostering close ties, identifying opportunities in trade, university collaborations, and facilitating mutual travel. He noted that shared history and cultural ties make Azerbaijan feel familiar, underscoring the need for further visits to deepen the relationship.
Pezeshkian emphasized broad areas of cooperation, including economy, industry, science, healthcare, and culture. He stressed the significance of parliamentary relations and partnerships between universities and healthcare sectors. The Iranian president also discussed projects to improve transport links, particularly a land connection between Azerbaijan’s mainland and Nakhchivan through Iranian territory, which he said would strengthen trade and enhance Azerbaijan’s role as a communication bridge between Iran and Russia.
Addressing diplomatic challenges between Azerbaijan and Armenia, Pezeshkian reiterated Iran’s commitment to supporting both nations’ rights and promoting peace through good neighborly relations. He specifically highlighted Iran’s role in facilitating the Azerbaijan-Nakhchivan land link project. Regarding the 2023 attack on Azerbaijan’s embassy in Tehran, Pezeshkian urged political and social elites to prevent such incidents from affecting high-level bilateral relations. He expressed respect and admiration for the people of Azerbaijan, wishing them honor, dignity, and success.
Pezeshkian stated that his upcoming visit to Azerbaijan, at the invitation of President Ilham Aliyev, would focus on enhancing cooperation in trade, science, economics, and transit routes connecting Iran, Azerbaijan, and Russia. He is accompanied by senior officials, including First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref.
