Ramzan Kadyrov Appoints Family Member to Key Government Role, Comments on Terrorist Threat and Region's Role in War

| News, Politics, North Caucasus

On April 24, Ramzan Kadyrov, the leader of Chechnya, appointed his nephew Khamzat Kadyrov as his new Adviser-Assistant on security.

"I am sure that he will cope with the tasks set to ensure operational interaction between the structures," Kadyrov said

The head of Chechnya noted that the region had been actively supporting the so-called special military operation [Russia's war in Ukraine] since the first days. "Since the beginning of the special military operation, 700 vehicles have been purchased. Special forces are equipped with the latest technologies. Military personnel is also trained in the republic, on the territory of the special forces university, and receive combat skills directly on the territory of the special operation. They are also trained to operate quadrocopters," Kadyrov added.

"There are no prerequisites for a terrorist threat in the region. Several measures are being taken to prevent them. I stressed that it is necessary to be vigilant and strengthen the interaction between all law enforcement agencies," Kadyrov concluded.

Notably, the terrorist threat on the territory of Chechnya has been a major concern for Russia for many years. The region has been plagued by violence and instability since the collapse of the Soviet Union, and Chechen separatists have been waging an insurgency against Russian rule for decades. In 2014, ISIS claimed responsibility for a series of suicide bombings in Volgograd, Russia, that killed more than 30 people. The Russian government has taken several steps to address the terrorist threat in Chechnya. These include increasing the number of security forces in the region, cracking down on extremism, and offering amnesty to separatists who lay down their arms. However, the threat remains, and Russia continues to face several challenges in its efforts to stabilize the region.
