The regions of the North Caucasus are leading in terms of the birth rate in Russia
The federal republics of the North Caucasus are leading in terms of the birth rate in Russia. This follows from the presentation of a speech at the Eastern Economic Forum by Oleg Apolikhin, the chief freelance specialist of the Russian Ministry of Health.
"The total fertility rate we now have in the main territory of Russia is 1.5. And only in the [federal] republics of the North Caucasus, where this coefficient is 2.9-3.3, it continues to grow there. Improving family health is a strategic factor in demographic growth: the best practices of the microregion," the specialist stated.
The birth rate in Chechnya is 2.9. At the same time, the lowest birth rate is in the Penza region (1.48) and the Tambov region (1.42), while the infant mortality rate in these regions is also low - 5.3 and 5.5, respectively.
