The highest inflation in Russia in 2021 recorded in the North Caucasus

The North Caucasus Federal District became the leader in price growth in 2021. The average inflation in Russia in December was 8.4% and in North Caucasus Federal District it was 9.8%. Most of all, prices rose for food and travel in public transport, cites data from the Central Bank of Russia.

The North Caucasus turned out to be the leader in annual inflation in December 2021 among the federal districts. It is followed by the Siberian (9.1%) and Southern (8.8%) federal districts.

Dagestan became the leader in terms of inflation in the North Caucasus Federal District - it amounted to 11.8% there, while in some months of 2021 inflation rose to almost 14%. As before, economists attribute this to the low level of competition in trade and increased logistics costs. In Ingushetia, annual inflation was 8.8%, Stavropol Territory - 9%, in Karachay-Cherkessia - 7.3%, in Kabardino-Balkaria - 8.1%, in North Ossetia - 9.1%.

In Chechnya, inflation rose to 7.6% in December 2021. According to Central Bank analysts, "the dynamics of inflation in the region is associated with the transfer of increased costs to retail prices and the expansion of demand with insufficient supply for certain product categories." In December, prices in Chechnya rose most of all for fruits and vegetables (17%), for food in general, and for travel on public transport (10% each).

Kuban and Rostov became leaders in the number of reported crimes

Krasnodar Territory and Rostov Region entered the top 6 Russian regions in terms of the number of reported crimes. The Kuban took second place in the rating, and the Rostov region is in sixth place.

According to the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation, 78,183 crimes were registered in the Krasnodar Territory last year. This is approximately two times less than in the leader of the rating - Moscow, and not much more than in the third-ranked Moscow region. The number of reported crimes here has increased by 5,000 compared to 2020. This is the first time in 12 years that the Krasnodar Territory has been ranked so high.

In the Rostov region, 58,538 crimes were recorded. It dropped by 3,000 in a year.

The regions of the North Caucasus in terms of absolute figures of registered crimes occupy the last places in the ranking. Thus, Ingushetia is in 83rd place (2,103 crimes), while in the republic this is the highest crime rate over the past 11 years. Kalmykia ranked 81st in the rating (2,940 crimes), Chechnya - 80th (3,128 crimes).

The ten worst regions in terms of infant mortality also included the Rostov region and Chechnya.

At the same time, the best situation with infant mortality among all regions of the country was recorded in Kalmykia, where this indicator amounted to 2.6 per 1000, and it decreased by more than 10% compared to the previous year. A decrease in infant mortality was also recorded in Kabardino-Balkaria; in Ingushetia it has not changed, while in other regions of the South of Russia and the North Caucasus it has increased.
