Russia and Armenia at a Crossroads: Kremlin Addresses Tensions and External Forces

On March 26, Dmitry Peskov, the Press Secretary of the Russian President Putin, addressed Russia's current challenges in its relations with Armenia.
"Russia is currently going through a rather difficult period in its relations with our friendly, brotherly Armenia," Peskov stated. Highlighting the significance of Armenians residing in Russia, Peskov emphasized, "Armenia is 'even more than fraternal because we have even more Armenians living here than in Armenia itself." He underscored the substantial economic contribution of these Armenians to Armenia's budget, amounting to several billion dollars annually. Peskov expressed concerns about external interference in the Caucasus region, emphasizing the need to limit the involvement of such forces for the region's stability and prosperity.
"We are convinced that the participation of these forces should be severely limited, as they are not capable of bringing stability and prosperity there," Peskov remarked. He expressed hope that Yerevan would prioritize continuing positive bilateral relations despite the challenges faced.
