Russian FM Meets Armenian Political Leadership, Calls for Transparent Relations

Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan received a delegation led by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, marking a renewed phase of dialogue between Armenia and Russia. In a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, Pashinyan welcomed the delegation and emphasized the importance of maintaining open communication in bilateral relations.
Lavrov expressed appreciation for the warm reception and reiterated Russia’s readiness to further develop ties with Armenia. Discussions covered a wide range of topics, including bilateral cooperation, engagement within the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), and regional and international security issues.
Later, Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan also met with Lavrov. During the meeting, Lavrov conveyed greetings from Russian President Vladimir Putin and stressed the importance of restoring full diplomatic contacts, noting that the leaders had agreed on this initiative last fall.
“The more honest and transparent we are with each other, the easier it will be to implement everything that is mutually beneficial,” Lavrov said, reaffirming the strategic alliance and allied commitments between the two countries.
President Khachaturyan welcomed Lavrov’s remarks, stating:
“Your visit is indeed of great significance for our relations. We have already seen some positive activity in our relations this year, and I believe this will continue. Thank you for President Putin’s greetings. Please convey my warmest regards to him as well.”
He stressed the value of constructive dialogue, especially in times of misunderstanding, and emphasized that issues can be resolved through transparent communication. The sides also highlighted upcoming bilateral initiatives, including the visit of Federation Council Chairwoman Valentina Matvienko and the Days of Armenian Culture in Russia, as key events to deepen ties.
The meeting additionally explored avenues for economic and decentralized cooperation, particularly in investment and infrastructure development. Both sides underscored the importance of fostering stable and lasting peace in the region, agreeing that future Armenia–Russia cooperation must be grounded in mutual benefit, respect, and trust.
